Scripture Notes – Sunday 1st August 2021

Sir, give us this bread always!

We continue our journey into John chapter 6. In the YouTube talk, three dimensions of the Gospel passage are identified:

  • Searching, seeking, questing.
  • What does God want of us?
  • Jesus as the “I am.”

Any one of these could take us deeply into our faith in Christ. In particular, the question at the centre — “What must we do to do the works of God” — arises for any spiritual traveller. Intriguingly, the very first words on the lips of Jesus in this Gospel are: ‘What are you looking for?’ (John 1:38)

The Wexford Cycle 2021

For many years, I’ve undertaken an annual charity cycle for Peter McVerry SJ. The Peter McVerry Trust continues to help many, many young people in trouble, providing support, therapy and housing. The cause is very good and you, the subscribers, have been very generous in the past.
