Scripture Notes – Sunday 28th November 2021

Your liberation is near at hand!

Advent + Christmas 2021

The new TSS programme went “live” on the 21st of November. It is still possible to register for the lectures and the two live events by going to the TSS website. The presentations can be watched in your own time; the webinar takes place on December 8 and the meditation a week later, on December 15. The two live events will be recorded and will be made available to all subscribers. Subscription is just €20 per household (couple, family or community).

What is new this Advent? In faith terms, the biggest news is the proposed synods, national and international, and the synodal pathways. The consultation of all the faithful on this scale has never occurred before. The potential is enormous — a kind of Vatican III, if it all works.

Is there anything each of us do right now? Yes, of course there is.

  • Become familiar with synodal pathways by exploring the various documents, websites and YouTube videos. Simply Synod would be a good place to start.
  • Start praying now, today, that the Holy Spirit will guide us all and we may have the heart to listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.
  • Take full part in the local listening/consultation when it happens in your parish community and diocese.
  • It is not forbidden to become (just a little) excited!

The Readings

Some inspiration

The quintessential Advent music for me is “Sleepers awake”, here played beautifully on guitar. For the full cantata, you could try this link (the highly accomplished Netherlands Bach Society version).

Hearers of the Word 7

Volume 7 of Hearers of the Word may be purchased online from the publishers or from Veritas. There is a Kindle version on Amazon.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us now and ever more. Amen.
