Scripture Notes – The readings for Sunday 21 June

Dear friends,
On this Sunday, we make our way back to Matthew, the Gospel for Year A. The YouTube video has a sort of welcome back tone, to help us change gear and re-enter the very different world of Matthew.

News: Dermot Lane has just published a new book: “Theology and Ecology in Dialogue. The Wisdom of Laudato Si’.” In 154 pages of text, he is offering an amazingly comprehensive overview of the issues, using a kaleidoscope of perspectives. Is there any topic more urgent, even as we emerge from lockdown?

1. Vision 2020: Faith into the Future/ Scripture Summer School
Some 267+ people are lined up to take part in the Scripture Summer School — a wonderful level of response. It is not too late to express interest — anytime this week. Our sincere hope is that the Summer School will still be an enjoyable learning experience for everyone.

4. Inspiration
Here’s a startling poem, almost a haiku, which Dermot Lane uses to close his new book:

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Earth’s crammed with heaven,

and every common bush afire with God,

but only he who sees takes off his shoes;

the rest sit around and pluck blackberries.

Wishing you all every blessing,
